I am currently a Chair Professor in the School of Computer Science  and Engineering at SUSTech in Shenzhen, China's Silicon Valley.  I joined SUSTech from  Durham University, UK where I was the inaugural Executive Director of the Institute of Advanced Research Computing, a Chair in Computer Engineering and the Head of the Innovative Computing Group at the School of Engineering and Computing Sciences.  In the past, I was a Senior Research Scientist with IBM Research, Ireland and a Professor at Trinity College Dublin and held senior faculty positions at the University of Birmingham and the  Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

I am a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Fellow of the British Computer Society.

I hold an INSEAD Certificate in Corporate Governance (INSEAD International Directors Programme)  and a PhD in Computer Science   (with S. Furber's AMULET/APT Group) from the University of Manchester.
